At 16:46 on Saturday December 12, 2020 the Nesconset Fire Department was alerted to a report of a stairway collapse with 2 persons entrapped. Units were already on scene at a Motor Vehicle Accident and a separate Medical Emergency requiring EMS and FIre response. Available units cleared those locations and responded to the Technical Rescue.

Upon arrival of the first responding units the Chief and his Assistants sized up the scene and found that a small second story deck and staircase pulled away from the exterior wall and collapsed. They started assessment of the two injured persons and radioed instructions to the responding units. Personnel from Heavy Rescue 4-4-9 and Engine 4-4-2 secured the scene and continued medical care and extraction of the injured. Additional personnel from Engines 4-4-1 and 4-4-5 also assisted on scene. The Department received assistance from the St. James Fire Department that transported the injured with their Ambulance 4-3-6-2. All units operated on scene under the command of AJ Anderson, Chief of Department and clear from the scene at 17:25.

The scene was turned over to the Town of Smithtown Fire Marshal for further investigation. During this alarm the Department handled an additional Medical Emergency.
