Telephone Alarm Brings Work For Nesconset Fire Fighters

1043 Hours. The Nesconset Fire Department was dispatched on a telephone alarm reporting a structure fire at 8 Diane Court off of Southern Boulevard. 3rd Assistant Chief John Martins was first in and advised 4-2-0 that he fire showing from a single story wood frame private dwelling. 2nd Assistant Chief James Keane arrived shortly thereafter and assumed command, requesting a reactivation of the alarm and the implementation of their working fire preplan. While his crews stretched two hand lines, Hauppauge Fire Department was activated for an engine, Smithtown Fire Department for an engine, Saint James Fire Department for a ladder, and the Ronkonkoma Fire Department for an engine. The Centereach Fire Department sent a covering ambulance to Nesconset's Headquarters. Assistant Chief Martins and the hose teams entered the building and made an aggressive attack on the fire, quickly gaining the upper hand and containing the fire to the south side of the building.

All of the occupants of the house had evacuated with their pets prior to the arrival of the fire department. There were no injuries to firefighters or civilians and the fire was under control within 30 minutes. The Smithtown Fire Marshals office is investigating.
