The Nesconset Fire Department was activated for a Residential Structure Fire at a group residence on Diane Court at 15:40 on Friday, August 12, 2022. A passerby noticed a fire on the outside of the structure and alerted the occupants. The fire alarm pull station was activated transmitting the alarm to the monitoring company and then relayed to 911. At the same time neighbors began calling 911 to report the fire.

Flames and smoke were observed on the exterior of the structure upon arrival of the first fire department unit and the Working Fire was transmitted. Firefighters from Engine 4-4-1 placed an 1-3/4” line into operation. Engine 4-4-3 arrived on scene and established a water supply and assisted with stretching and preparing a back up line for operation. The exterior fire was quickly knocked down with very little extension into the attic space. Mutual aid units from Lakeland, Ronkonkoma, Hauppauge, Centereach and St. James assisted with operations on scene while Smithtown operated as the Rapid Intervention Team.

All units operated under the command of Chief Frank Ragona and cleared from the scene at 16:08. Fire Marshals from Smithtown Department of Public Safety remained on location to complete their fire investigation. Fire Marshals from the State of New York also responded to the scene as the incident location is a state regulated group residence.
