On Saturday, May 15, 2021 the Nesconset Fire Department was activated for a reported brush fire in the vicinity of Smithtown Boulevard and Locust Drive. The first responding units arrived on scene and determined there was a large area of brush on fire but not accessible from Smithtown Boulevard due to a large construction site and the excavated terrain. Incoming units were advised to respond to Woodview Drive to access the woods from the north. Brush truck 4-4-4 entered the woods and operated at the scene of a large area brush fire that was rapidly expanding and aided by dry conditions in combination with a light wind that pushed the head of the fire up the hilly terrain. Additional brush trucks were requested from the Lakeland and Holbrook Departments to assist with the fire suppression and thoroughly soak the affected areas after the main head of fire was knocked down. Nesconset Engines 4-4-1 and 4-4-2 also responded to the scene. All units operated under the command of Assistant Chief Frank Ragona and returned to stations at 18:04.
