Smithtown Chiefs Council Awards - 2004

Smithtown Fire Chiefs Council's Annual Awards Ceremony was held on Saturday February 5, 2005. Awards were presented to Nesconset Assistant Chiefs AJ Anderson and Michael Wichtendahl, Smithtown Fire Dispatcher Jerry Zlotkowski and Members of Hauppauge Fire Department for their Life Saving Efforts.

Awards were presented by Ex-Chief Marty Thompson, St. James FD and Ex-Chief Joe Gardella, Smithtown FD. These men represented Smithtown Chiefs Council.

Nesconset Fire Department responded to a Motor Vehicle Accident in front of 835 Route 347. Arriving Chiefs found patients trapped in a vehicle with energized power lines in contact with the vehicle. Chiefs Anderson and Wichtendahl were able to control the scene, extract the patients and protect the lives of all responders to this alarm

A 7 year old called 911 reporting an adult female unconscious. Smithtown Fire Department Dispatcher Gerry Zlotkowski, trained as an Emergency Medical Dispatcher, accepted the call and was able to direct responding units, based on information received, to the scene. The patient was treated at the scene and transported to the Hospital. This 7 year old's parents instilled into this child that 911 was able to assist in an emergency. This woman's life was saved by the actions of Dispatcher Zlotkowski, responding units from Smithtown Fire Department and this 7 year old.

Members of Hauppauge Fire Department were presented awards from the Smithtown Chief's Council. Although the details are not known, the efforts of the Hauppauge Fire Department have been recognized by the Hauppauge Fire Department, Firefighters of the Town of Smithtown and the Smithtown Chiefs Council.

Smithtown Chiefs Council honored the Life Savers of Suffolk County's Firefighters. All Firefighters, and especially those from the Town of Smithtown, should be proud of the efforts our Firefighters.
