Nesconset Fire Department was alerted to a possible building collapse on October 16, 2005. The structure was an unattached open garage type construction with several vehicles, including at least one extremely valuable automobile. The collapsed building crushed a metal shed which contained hazardous materials. Nesconset responded with all Chiefs, Engine 4-4-5, Heavy Rescue 4-4-9 and Ambulance 4-4-6B. Hauppauge Fire Department's Heavy/Technical Rescue 3-8-9 was special called to assist. Hauppauge provided special equichment such as para-tech air struts, a moderate supply of lumber and a grip hoist to stablize the structure. Town of Smithtown provided heavy equipment to dismantle the structure. The entire operation was under the Command of Nesconset Chief of Department Kevin Zanfardino with assistance from his Deputies and Hauppauge Chief of Department Michael Gagliardi and his 2nd Assistant Chief Thomas Kriklava. All Personnel were secure by 1944 hrs.
