NOTICE OF SPECIAL ELECTION
NESCONSET FIRE DISTRICT
TOWN OF SMITHTOWN
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK
September 16, 2014
PLEASE TAKE NOTICE that a Special Election of the Nesconset Fire District will take place on September 16, 2014 between the hours of 3:00 PM and 9:00 PM at the Nesconset Fire District Main Firehouse located at 25 Gibbs Pond Road, Nesconset, New York, for the purpose of voting on the following proposition:
Shall the resolution of the Nesconset Fire District, in the Town of Smithtown, Suffolk County, entitled: “RESOLUTION OF THE NESCONSET FIRE DISTRICT, IN THE TOWN OF SMITHTOWN, SUFFOLK COUNTY, NEW YORK, ADOPTED JULY 28, 2014 AUTHORIZING THE INSTALLMENT PURCHASE OF ONE (1) NEW CUSTOM 1,500 GPM PUMPER TRUCK AND ALL RELATED EQUIPMENT; STATING THE ESTIMATED MAXIMUM COST THEREOF IS NOT TO EXCEED $518,609; PROVIDING FOR THE PAYMENT OF AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED $518,609 THEREOF BY THE EXECUTION OF AN INSTALLMENT PURCHASE AGREEMENT IN SAID APPROXIMATE AMOUNT AT THE PREVAILING RATE OF INTEREST AT THE TIME OF EXECUTION OF SAID INSTALLMENT PURCHASE AGREEMENT; STATING THAT IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT SUCH PURCHASE IS A TYPE II ACTION PURSUANT TO THE STATE ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY REVIEW ACT (“SEQRA”) AND WILL NOT RESULT IN ANY ADVERSE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT; DETERMINING THAT THE PERIOD OF PROBABLE USEFULNESS OF THE VEHICLE TO BE PURCHASED AND ALL RELATED EQUIPMENT IS TWENTY (20) YEARS; PROVIDING FOR THE LEVY OF TAXES TO BE COLLECTED TO PAY THE PRINCIPAL AND INTEREST ON SAID INSTALLMENT PURCHASE AGREEMENT duly adopted by the Board of Fire Commissioners of said Fire District on the 28th day of July, 2014, be approved?
Pursuant to Subdivision 4 of Section 179 of the Town Law, every elector of the Town of Smithtown who shall be a registered voter of such Town and who shall have resided in the Fire District for a period of thirty (30) days next preceding the election which is the subject of this notice shall be qualified to vote upon such proposition.
Please note that only persons who have registered with the Suffolk County Board of Elections on or before the 23rd day before the Fire District election shall be eligible to vote. For this Special Election, such registration must have taken place on or before August 25, 2014.
Please be advised that the Board of Elections of the Fire District shall meet on September 5, 2014 at 12:00 noon at the Main Firehouse of the Nesconset Fire District, 25 Gibbs Pond Road, Nesconset, New York, for the purpose of preparing the rolls of registered voters of the Fire District.
