EMS Division

Taz takes you home!

Air goes in and out.  Blood goes round and round. Any variation on this is a bad thing.

EMS technicians and paramedics

In our town, more than three times the number of calls go out for emergency ambulance services than for fire alone.  As such our EMS members are required to use important skills to assess and treat the patient, until he or she can be transported safely to the hospital. Emergencies on any given day can range from an injury due to a fall, to heavy rescue, to emergencies requiring diver-rescue.

All our fire fighters are required to be EMS certified, but we also have members who perform EMS-only services.  Nearly 150 hours of classroom training goes into becoming a basic-level EMT.  In addition, hundreds of hours of observation and riding as a crew member is required by the Department, before even gaining EMT certification.  The paramedics who offer advanced life support (ALS) to our community go through a grueling EMT-P or EMT-CC course which is more than double the hours of EMT training. Nesconset can be proud of the dedication of this EMS group.

Nesconset is proud to be riding and utilizing state of the art equipment, which helps us to provide the very best in care for our community. As technology advances, we investigate and new and better ways of providing top notch care. In the past, The Nesconset Fire Department has been selected to participate in studies for the utilization of cutting-edge life-saving technology.

An EMS Prayer

As I perform my duty Lord
Whatever be the call,
Help to guide and keep me safe
From dangers big and small.

I want to serve and do my best
No matter what the scene,
I pledge to keep my skills refined,
My judgment quick and keen.

This calling to give of my self
Most do not understand,
But I stand ready all the time
To help my fellow man.

To have the chance to help a child
Restore his laugh with glee,
A word of thanks I might not hear,
But knowing is enough for me.

The praise of men is fine for some,
But I feel truly blessed,
That you oh Lord have chosen me
To serve in EMS!
