Ambulances
Nesconset Fire Department operates 2 New York State Certified
Ambulances. These two vehicles were purchased as identical vehicles which has allowed for full standardization of all equipment and supplies. In order to maintain the New York State Certification, these
vehicles must comply with Regulations regarding Equipment and Training.
The New York State Department of Health has determined the minimum standard for
an Ambulance within the State of New York. Regardless of whether the
Ambulance Service is Paid or Volunteer, the standards must be met. The
Nesconset Fire Department meets or exceeds these standards and our Ambulances
display the emblem of a New York State Certified Ambulance. Our minimum staffing for an Ambulance includes a New York
State Certified Emergency Medical Technician. To obtain this
certification, our members must attend classes which provide approximately 180
hours of classroom training and 20 to 30 hours of Hospital training. Once
our members are certified by the New York State Department of Health, we provide
mentoring of the new EMTs to insure they are able to function in various
emergency situations. Members who have mastered the skills of an Emergency Medical
Technician can the go forward with additional training. New York State
provides certifications for both Emergency Medical Technician - Critical Care
and Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic. Both of these levels of
training include additional classroom, Hospital and Field training. When
these candidates have been certified by the State and County Departments of
Health, they can provide Advanced Life Support in accordance with the
guidelines of Pre Hospital Emergency Medical Services. Coryright 2007-2008 Nesconset Fire Department
